Dev Log – May 25, 2025: Wheat Patrol and Setbacks

What We Worked On This Week
Not everything went to plan—but the field got louder, and the scarecrow started walking.

Here’s what made it in:

  • 🌾 Ambient Sound Enhancements – The wheat now rustles as you walk through it. It’s subtle, but it changes how the field feels around you.
  • 🎥 Scarecrow Patrol AI – The scarecrow now patrols the wheat. He can sense when you’re inside it. If he catches you, he resets your progress—accompanied by a Cinemachine camera trigger for a jarring, cinematic reaction.
  • 🐛 Singleton Scene Bug Fixes – A tough bug involving singleton mismatches across scenes only appeared in builds (not in-editor). It took time to isolate and fix, but it’s resolved now.

In Progress

  • GUI for the main menu and pause menu
  • Feedback and wishlist links added in preparation for the demo

What’s Coming Up

  • 📖 Finish the letter and journal reader interface
  • 🏚️ Add new world landmarks: the dried well and the toolshed
  • 🧭 Begin implementing level states and map out progression points across the game

Studio Notes
This week was slower than we’d like, but meaningful pieces are falling into place. The field has sound. The scarecrow has purpose. And we’re laying the groundwork for narrative flow and pacing.
