Steam Next Fest Recap: Shape Swarm Growth, Feedback & Final Evolution

Shape Swarm doubled its wishlist during Steam Next Fest — from 49 to 110. The core loop is complete, player feedback is already shaping improvements, and the final evolution has entered the arena. Now it’s time to polish the timed mode and prepare for launch.

Devlog – March 1st

The Last Day of Next Fest

It’s the final day of Steam Next Fest — and what a week it’s been.

We went into the festival with 49 wishlists for Shape Swarm.

We’re closing out at 110 wishlists.

That’s more than double in a single event window.

More importantly, we had a steady stream of players jump into the demo, and a few even left reviews. One phrase that stuck with me:

“Chill arcade game.”

That’s exactly the energy Shape Swarm is aiming for — something intense but smooth, readable, and satisfying.

🎮 Player Feedback → Immediate Improvements

One of the best parts of Next Fest is real player feedback at scale.

Several players shared thoughtful notes about:

  • Power-up clarity

  • Shield expectations (persistent vs. one-shot behavior)

  • Upgrade balance and build variety

  • Audio settings persistence

Some of these changes are already implemented and will be part of the next demo update.

The Thorn Shield rework, UI tweaks, and balance passes are all part of tightening the experience. This week wasn’t just about visibility — it was about validation and iteration.

🧬 Core Loop Complete

A major milestone happened quietly this week:

The main game loop is now complete.

All core systems are functioning end-to-end:

  • Waves scaling properly

  • Shape progression aligned to player upgrade levels

  • Anchor spawner and advanced enemy tiers in place

  • Final Evolution added

We’ve now introduced the new shapes and locked in the final evolution path. That means the game’s mechanical identity is fully defined.

What’s next?

Polish.

⏱️ Timed Mode Polish Phase

The next focus is refining the Timed Mode from start to finish.

That means:

  • Difficulty curve smoothing

  • Spawn timing refinement

  • Final boss cleanup pacing

  • Visual and audio feedback improvements

  • Making sure the 16:30 → boss transition feels intentional

This is where the game stops feeling like a demo and starts feeling like a complete product.

Next Fest was a huge week — not just for Digital Sagas, but for the indie scene as a whole.

Mindset Moving Forward

Shape Swarm wasn’t built with massive expectations. It was built to be complete. Focused. Polished.

Doubling wishlists during the festival is momentum — but more importantly, it confirms the game resonates.

Now we build on it.

Polish the experience. Tighten the feel. Prepare for launch.

And then…

We keep building the Saga.
