Horror hits differently with friends — and this week’s lineup proves it. All three of the co-op horror games we’re featuring have just received major new updates, adding fresh content, new levels, new monsters, and new ways to scream together.

Phasmophobia dropped the brand-new Nell’s Diner map and the Moneybags ID Card.
R.E.P.O. unleashed the massive MONSTER Update, adding enemies, abilities, valuables, and rooms.
Backrooms: Escape Together introduced Level -1: “The Grayscale Halls,” beginning a new wave of level development.
Each update injects new fear, fresh systems, and renewed replayability — making now the perfect moment to gather your friends, hop into voice chat, and dive into the dark together. Let’s take a look at the best multiplayer horror games delivering chills and chaos right now.
Phasmophobia

Developer: Kinetic Games
Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/739630/Phasmophobia/
Official Website: https://www.kineticgames.co.uk/phasmophobia
Phasmophobia remains the gold standard of cooperative horror, and the newest update makes it an even stronger reason to jump back in. The highlight is Nell’s Diner, a compact, atmospheric map ideal for fast-paced, high-tension investigations.
You and up to three friends are tasked with identifying one of over 20 ghost types, using tools like EMF readers, spirit boxes, UV lights, and thermometers. Each run changes ghost behavior, cursed possessions, and environmental clues — creating a constant sense of unpredictability.
NEW: Nell’s Diner

The latest update introduces Nell’s Diner, a dense, interactive map with:
- 14 rooms
- 13 possible ghost rooms, including a walk-in freezer
- Tons of new environmental objects
- A layout similar in size to 6 Tanglewood Drive, but far more interactive and detailed
Moneybags ID Card
This update also adds the Moneybags ID Card & Badge, unlocked by completing the “Break the Bank” achievement.
If you already earned it, you’ll receive the card after finishing your first contract post-update.
Why It Stands Out

- 20+ Ghost Types with unique personalities and abilities
- Voice Recognition so ghosts react to your actual speech
- Cursed Possessions that offer power at a price
- Immersive Atmosphere with reactive lighting and minimal UI
- Custom Difficulties for endless replayability
- Team-Based Roles letting players divide responsibilities
Terrifying, immersive, and constantly expanding, Phasmophobia remains the premier co-op horror experience.
R.E.P.O.

Developer: semiwork
Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3241660/REPO/
R.E.P.O. (Retrieve, Extract & Profit Operation) blends co-op horror and full physics chaos as you and up to five friends infiltrate monster-infested facilities to collect valuable objects. Every item is physics-driven — meaning collisions, drops, and clumsy mistakes can destroy your payout.
You work for a mysterious AI “creator,” upgrading your robotic bodies and tackling increasingly dangerous missions. Monsters obey the same physics rules you do, turning every chase into a frantic scramble of momentum, weight, and panicked shouting over proximity voice chat.
NEW: The MONSTER Update

The newest update massively expands the game with fresh content, mechanics, and quality-of-life features.
🧟 10 New Enemies
A full roster of new monsters with distinct abilities, movement styles, and behaviors.

- Proximity voice chat
- Diverse monster roster
- Upgradeable robotic bodies
- Roguelike structure with randomized missions
Chaotic, hilarious, and terrifying, R.E.P.O. is co-op horror at its most unpredictable.
Backrooms: Escape Together

Developer: Triiodide Studios
Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2141730/Backrooms_Escape_Together/
Built in Unreal Engine 5, Backrooms: Escape Together faithfully recreates the liminal dread of the Backrooms with photorealistic lighting, spatial audio, and shifting procedural levels. With up to six players per lobby, you explore a growing roster of surreal, eerie environments filled with puzzles, entities, and unstable geometry.
NEW: Level -1 “The Grayscale Halls”

The newest content drop adds Level -1, described as:
“An expansive, winding system of concrete hallways… characterized by disorienting grayscale color and rotting wallpaper.”
It’s visually distinct, deeply atmospheric, and one of the most unsettling additions the game has seen so far.
Development Update
After a period focused on team scaling, bug fixes, overhauling v0.12, and preparing for console ports, the team is now back to full level production. More levels are coming — and Level -1 is just the beginning.

Why It Stands Out
- Procedural generation
- 1–6 player co-op
- Unreal Engine 5 visuals
- Dynamic proximity voice chat
- Lore-accurate environments
- Frequent updates
This game nails the uncanny, claustrophobic energy of the Backrooms — and every new level deepens the nightmare.
Why Multiplayer Horror Works
Multiplayer horror turns fear into a shared experience — where every scream, every close call, and every disastrous plan becomes a story you’ll retell for weeks. Whether you’re whispering into a spirit box, dragging a fragile relic past a rampaging monster, or wandering grayscale hotel corridors, these games thrive on communication, chaos, and the thrill of surviving together.
Just be warned: sometimes the biggest danger isn’t the monsters… it’s your friends.
